“I also wanted to say thank you so much for taking me on as an apprentice these past couple years. Learning from you has been an incredible experience and it has definitely made me a much better coach and fencer. This might have even gotten me into college, since I wrote a lot of essays about my time at the club! I don’t know if you know this, but I almost quit after I became an intermediate. I’m so glad that didn’t happen because I really believe that fencing has shaped a lot of who I am today. Thank you for all of the effort you put into helping the students, coaches, and club; it really makes a difference.”
“I dislike exercising on stationary equipment and treadmills. It is boring and lonely even in a gym. So when I saw the ad for a fencing class for people 8 to 80, I thought “Why not try?” I was 75 at the time. Coaches Lara and Jake were so encouraging, always cautioning me to do what I could and not try to completely emulate those who are 20 to 30 years younger. I needed extra breaks and rests to get through the class. But this sport makes you think as well as perform physically. After 6 months I could keep up! For 18 months now I have been able to do a 90 minute class 3 times a week and compete in tournaments. I don’t expect to win, but I do get close sometimes. Maybe next week….”
“Fencing is an awesome activity at any age! I appreciate the outstanding instruction and camaraderie at FAP. It’s also a great workout for your body and your brain!”
“A phenomenal place to get both a physical and mental workout. I have been a member since I was 10-years-old. My experiences at Fencing Academy of Philadelphia taught me the habits and mindset necessary to successfully take on any challenge in life.”
“Great, full body and mind workouts for an interesting sport. Caters to multiple different levels of dedication.”
“Great place to learn the sport of fencing. Excellent coaches and facility”
